About the book
Fenn and the Sweet Berries begins with a basket and a morning by the river. Fenn has found berries, more than enough, and for a little while they are all his. Then he looks around and notices his friends, and the basket begins to feel different in his paws. Shared slowly, one by one, the berries taste sweeter than they did alone.
It is a quiet story about a small, ordinary kind of kindness. Nothing dramatic happens. There is no argument to resolve and no problem that needs fixing. There is only the gentle pull of wanting to give something good to someone else, and the warm feeling that follows when you do.
Fenn and the Sweet Berries is a picture book about kindness and sharing for ages 3 to 6. It suits a read-aloud moment when the day is slow and there is time to linger, and it gives a child a simple, touchable idea to carry: the things we enjoy are usually better with others near.
The pages are unhurried. Short sentences and warm, painterly river scenes let a young child settle into the story without needing to keep up. A grown-up reading aloud will find it easy to slow right down, to pause at each spread and let the pictures do some of the talking.
Fenn and the Sweet Berries is Book 1 in the Fenn's River Days series from Lantern Path Books, our independent Australian picture-book imprint. Like all our stories it is calm, kind and gently told, with human-curated, human-approved illustrations.
Paperback, 24 pages, and a fine choice for a still afternoon or any moment you want a story that leaves a good feeling behind.
