Plain-language summary
In short: Lantern Path Books collects adult email addresses so we can send the free printable you asked for and occasional updates. We do not request or want any data about children. We use double opt-in, you can unsubscribe at any time, and we never sell or rent your details. Any book purchases happen on third-party stores (for example Amazon or Google Play), not on this website. We do not take payments here. Questions: [email protected].
This policy is written in plain language to describe our real, current practices. It has not yet had a formal legal review against the Australian Privacy Act and GDPR/UK GDPR; that review is still recommended (REVIEW_REQUIRED) and the wording may be refined as a result. This is not legal advice.
1. Who we are
Lantern Path Books is an independent publishing imprint based in Australia, operated by a single individual. References below to "we" or "Lantern Path Books" refer to this operator.
2. What we collect
When you sign up through one of our email forms, we collect:
- Your email address (required to deliver requested content)
- Your first name (optional; used for personalization)
- The page you signed up from (so we know which lead magnet you requested)
- Your date and IP at signup (for consent record-keeping under GDPR)
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-first, cookieless measure of basic site traffic (such as page views and referrers). It does not set cookies, does not fingerprint visitors, and does not feed advertising profiles, so it needs no consent.
We also use Google Analytics 4 and the Pinterest tag to understand which stories and printables people find useful and to measure our advertising. These are cookie-based, so they stay switched off until you choose "Yes, that is fine" on the consent banner shown on your first visit. If you decline or simply ignore the banner, no analytics or advertising cookies are set.
Separately from these cookies, when you submit one of our sign-up forms we may share a hashed (irreversibly scrambled) version of your email address with our advertising partners, such as Pinterest, so we can measure how well our advertising performs (for example, to know that an ad led to a sign-up). This happens on our own server using a one-way hash that cannot be turned back into your email. It is used only to measure our own campaigns; our partners do not receive a usable email address and do not use this data to market to you. We never sell your data.
3. How we use your information
Email addresses are used to:
- Deliver the free printable or content you requested
- Send the welcome sequence (5 emails over 14 days)
- Send occasional updates about Lantern Path Books (about once a month)
We do not sell, rent, lease, or trade your information with any third party for marketing purposes. The only data we share with advertising partners is the hashed, measurement-only signal described in section 2, which cannot be reversed into your email and is never used by them to market to you.
4. Legal basis (GDPR)
If you are in the EU or UK, we rely on your consent (Article 6(1)(a)) to send you marketing emails. You provide consent via a double-opt-in process: you fill in a form, then click a confirmation link in an email we send.
Brazil (LGPD). If you are in Brazil, we process your email under the Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD) on the basis of your consent, given through the same double opt-in. We collect only the email of adults (parents, guardians, educators), never data from or about children, and we use it solely to deliver the free material you requested and occasional gentle updates. You may withdraw consent, request access, correction, or deletion of your data at any time by unsubscribing or emailing [email protected]. (Em português: tratamos o seu e-mail conforme a LGPD, com base no seu consentimento via dupla confirmação; somente adultos, nunca dados de crianças; você pode cancelar ou pedir a exclusão dos seus dados quando quiser pelo e-mail acima.)
5. Cookies and tracking
This website does not set its own advertising or analytics tracking cookies. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which may set strictly-necessary cookies for security (e.g., DDoS protection, bot detection); these are not used for marketing or advertising.
Our email sign-up forms are provided by MailerLite. MailerLite's form and delivery scripts may set their own cookies or use local storage: for example, to remember that you have already seen or submitted a form, or to attribute a sign-up. These are governed by MailerLite's own cookie and privacy policies. If you do not interact with a form, you can browse the site without submitting any details.
We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not track you for advertising, so it runs without a consent prompt.
For optional cookie-based analytics and advertising measurement, we use Google Analytics 4 and the Pinterest tag. We show a consent banner on your first visit and load nothing until you agree; choosing "No thanks" keeps them off. We remember your choice on your device. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing this site's storage in your browser, which removes the saved choice and shows the banner again. These services are governed by Google's and Pinterest's own privacy policies.
6. Third-party services
We use MailerLite, a reputable email service provider, to manage subscribers and deliver emails. MailerLite has access to your email address and any details you provide; it maintains its own privacy policy and GDPR posture.
7. Data retention
If you are an active subscriber: we retain your data for as long as you remain subscribed.
If you unsubscribe: we retain a minimal record of your email address in our "do-not-contact" list (so we don't accidentally re-add you), but we do not send you further marketing emails. You can request full erasure at any time.
8. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you have rights including:
- The right to access your data
- The right to correct your data
- The right to erasure ("right to be forgotten")
- The right to data portability
- The right to object to processing
- The right to withdraw consent at any time
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the address below.
9. Children's data
Lantern Path Books markets to parents and educators, not to children directly. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in some EU jurisdictions). If we discover we have collected data from a child, we will delete it immediately.
10. International data transfers
If you are outside Australia, your data may be transferred to and processed in countries where our email service provider operates. Those providers commit to appropriate data protection standards.
11. Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect your data, including HTTPS for site traffic and reputable third-party email providers with their own security commitments. No system is perfectly secure; we will notify affected users if a breach occurs, in line with applicable laws.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent revision. For material changes, we will notify subscribers via email.
