About the book
When evening falls, Pip wants to sit outside and watch the first stars come out. But the meadow has gone dark, and her warm home-lamp cannot come along, a lamp on a table stays home. So Pip decides to make a light she can carry. She gathers a small glass jar, a little candle, a bend of soft wire, and a small wooden base. Bit by bit, with patient care, she builds a tiny lantern. The first flame is shy and low, but Pip does not rush. She wipes the glass, gives the flame some air, and waits, until it glows warm and gold. Then she carries her little lantern out into the soft blue dusk and sits beneath the first stars, with her own warm light beside her. A gentle story about hope, making things, and carrying your own small light into the dark. For ages 4 to 7.
